My journey to my fitness goals here at RP Fitness as been an exciting and rewarding one. I started running about two years ago to stay ‘skinny’, but like most people who find running for other reasons, I fell in love with it. In February of this year I discovered trail running and ultra marathons. This wasn’t like road running. It required much more all over strength and endurance. The distances are long, you have to learn about nutrition and be adaptive to changing circumstances. It requires a lot of mental focus. I decided I wanted to complete a 50k (31 miles) before the end of the year.
In the past the only races I’d ever done were small 5ks and half marathons. I needed help. I had a consultation with Matt and started personal training in Feb with Jeannie. Since then I’ve dropped my excess fat and gained muscle, but more importantly, it has helped with my mental focus. A lot of what goes into running is mental focus and getting through the urge to quit. Personal training has let me experience exactly what muscle failure feels like. It’s given me so much confidence in everything I do and it translates over to other aspects of life.
On August 25th I ran my first 50k and I’m not stopping there. I have plans for a 50 miler next year and in a few years a 100 miler. I know Jeannie and RP can help me reach those goals.
